Pattern And Layering Pictures

Layers LayersBright

This painting was created to display a unique use of pattern and layering. As you can see in the images, each different aspect has a different texture. The foreground (rabbits) have a diamond shaped pattern, the mid-ground (buildings) have a lined texture, and the background (the fireworks) have a triangular pattern to them. Not only does this give each item a pattern, but it also gives the overall piece some repetition, as the same patterns are used in multiple places. Also, I deliberately chose all very bright and vibrant colors. The reasoning behind this was to provide a strong contrast to the very dark background. You can also see that I stuck with a very consistent line weight. This was done to emphasize the effect layering can have. Even though everything has the same line weight, you can easily determine what parts are in front of others.
